At the September meeting, the Council discussed the fencing around the playground, which is deteriorating. The last time it was considered replacing the fence and installing new gates, the quotes were over £10,000, and the Council believes that new quotes will now be even higher. The Council does not currently have the budget for this, so a full like-for-like replacement is not likely any time soon.
As an alternative, the Council is considering removing the fence entirely, and replacing it only on one side, between the car park and the playground, leaving the other three sides open to the rest of the recreation area. This would be more affordable, especially if volunteers can be found to help remove the fence, rather than the Council paying a contractor for removal.
The playgrounds in some of our neighbouring villages are similarly unfenced, and the reality today is that our own playground is already open to the recreation area, because the gates are no longer there.
The Council would like to hear your views on this idea, especially from those who use the playground.
