The Parish Council has, with great reluctance, decided to remove the horse chestnut on the village green near the Old Chapel, subject of course to WODC’s prior approval, which is required for tree removal in conservation areas.
This tree has in the past caused building subsidence which resulted in a very significant claim against the Parish Council’s insurance policy. The tree has since grown beyond the conditions stipulated by the insurer for continued coverage, despite our cutting it back from time to time to try to meet those conditions; however, these efforts have resulted in the tree surgeon deeming it to be ill.
Following its removal, we plan to plant a replacement tree in this area but at a greater distance from any property, with the selection of species to be based on the advice of a tree expert. Any suggestions or comments would be welcome, to the Parish Clerk at clerk@leafieldparishcouncil.org
