Speeding through the village has repeatedly been raised with the Parish Council as a danger to residents and especially children. The Council has no power to enforce speed limits – that lies with Thames Valley Police – nor has it any power over the roads as that is the responsibility of Oxfordshire County Council.
Whilst a Community Speedwatch programme is being investigated, the Council is limited to highlighting speeding via the Speed Indication Device (‘SID’). This is moved to different locations around the village so as to avoid it becoming overly familiar. These locations are not chosen at random, nor is the direction in which the SID is facing.
Recently, however, the direction the SID has been facing in has been reversed by a member of the public, causing damage to the attachment mechanism in the process. The Council realises that there may be differing views on the best location and/or direction for it but please, rather than changing it yourself, can you let the Council know so that it can build up a more complete picture of people’s concerns?
